QUALCOMM Incorporated had expanded the terms of Casio Computer Co., Ltd.’s existing subscriber unit license agreement to include all 3G CDMA standards. The company also announced that it has signed a worldwide subscriber unit license agreement with Yulong Computer Technology Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary of China Wireless Technologies).
Under the terms of the royalty-bearing expansion, QUALCOMM has granted Casio and Yulong a worldwide license under QUALCOMM’s CDMA patent portfolio to develop, manufacture and sell subscriber units implementing any 3G CDMA standard (i.e, CDMA2000® 1X/1xEV-DO, WCDMA/UMTS, TD-SCDMA).
“This license will allow Casio to offer 3G handsets that provide consumers the opportunity to have high-quality, high-speed, wireless access to feature-rich multimedia applications and services. Casio’s initiative to add WCDMA products to their product line is a testament of yet another manufacturer recognizing the market value of 3G products,” said Marvin Blecker, president of QUALCOMM Technology Licensing.
“This license agreement will enable China Wireless, through its Yulong subsidiary, to develop and market competitive 3G products, keeping pace with the need for enhanced wireless devices,” said Guo Deying, president of China Wireless. “We look forward to working with QUALCOMM, the leading developer and supplier of CDMA technology, to support 3G adoption in China and worldwide.”
QUALCOMM has signed a commercial modem card license agreement with SIM Technology Group (an independent handset design house in China). The company has granted SIM Tech a worldwide license under its CDMA patent portfolio to develop, manufacture and sell certain 3G (including WCDMA) modem card products.
“QUALCOMM is pleased to license SIM Technology Group, a leader in handset design, for the development, manufacture and sale of modem card products,” said Marvin Blecker, president of QUALCOMM Technology Licensing. “SIM Tech will now be able to expand their product portfolio to include advanced 3G wireless solutions that enable users to be connected and mobile, giving them access to necessary applications wherever they may be.”
