We all like when our PC it’s running smooth and fine. No viruses, no blue screens, everything nice and easy. But what do you do when it crashes, when it freezes or when it doesn’t even starts?
Well, if you have a problem, you go to a specialist. But when the specialist has a couple of such “problemsâ€Â? he means he has a nice business. We can make beautiful and amazing things, but when it comes to building day-to-day things, we can’t make them available to everyone. Or to last.
So, the demand for the PC technical support its increasing every day. More and more computers sell everyday, the users don’t know how to maintain them, so sooner or later, your computer starts to have problems. Software or hardware. And you start paying.
Third-party PC service it’s a nice business these days. These is the story of the Geek Squad, the company that provides third-party PC service, company that resides in every Best Buy shop.
Considering that last year, this market had produced billions of $, and the trend it’s raising, Geek Squad will surely get big bucks. Founder Robert Stephens, or the “chiefâ€Â? inspectorâ€Â? as he likes to be called, found the best solution for employees: the students. From 1994, when he founded the firm, Geek Squad grew steadily, and now he has over 12000 employees. 2000 of them do house calls, and the other are working in the Best Buy stores.
The secret is the flat rates, no matter how much the operation lasts. For example, if you want your windows restored, your antivirus up-and-running and your updates to be installed, it will cost you $99.
Now that the vendors scale down their warranties, they can offer cheaper products. But also profitable extended warranties. Here comes the Geek Squad.
For more than five years, Timothy Lugosi runs Pasadena Computer Works, a local service technician. He charges $75 an hour or flat rates for some jobs. He mostly repair virus damages and sets up networks. But when Geek Squad moved into his area, he become nervous, thinking that they will steal his clients. But no, his old clients turned them off, sticking to Lugosi. Why? Because of the rates and also because of the more “human approach.
As far as the technology will improve, new problems will appear, and new solution will have to be found. Till then, good luck.
