If you ever need a truly mobile operating system, EyeOS is what you have been looking for.
EyeOS is an open source, free, web operating system that offers one unique feature: it’s available wherever there is a internet-connected computer. Although you need a normal operating system to run eyeOS, the web OS is platform independent and can be run on any computer with a web browser.
The application must be first installed on a web server with PHP support, but once installed it functions just as a regular web application being accessible by writing a URL in a browser window.
EyeOS comes with a pretty complex file system manager that can even unzip uploaded files and manage different folders. As there is no operating system without even the most basic text editing tool, EyeOS comes with a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) Editor that can save files and store them in the virtual file system. A calendar application, contacts manager, RSS reader, calculator, and a chess game are also available.
One particularly interesting feature is the built-in web browser with just the basic features which is actually functions inside another web browser which is used to run the entire eyeOS application. At first sight, there is no sense in using a stripped-down web browser inside a fully featured browser, but maybe eyeOS will later prove to have a reason for implementing this unique feature.
