A Wall Street analyst has claimed that the new versions of Apple’s iPod nanos and video iPod players might be delayed by almost six months.
American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu told clients that the nanos and the widescreen video iPod which were supposed to ship in Q3 and Q4 could be delayed by a quarter or two.
“We previously believed that new nanos and the widescreen video iPod could ship in Q3 and Q4, respectively,” American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu told clients in a research note. “However, we now believe that both could be delayed by a quarter or two.”
It seems that the reason for the delay is Apple switching to Samsung for the chips or SOC (system-on-a-chip) instead of their ex supplier PortalPlayer.
If this is true, we might have the new iPods and Video iPods only on Christmas.
“We believe the price points will remain the same at $199 and $249, but that storage capacities will be doubled to 4GB and 8GB, up from 2GB and 4GB,” Wu wrote. He made no comment on plans for Apple’s 1GB iPod nano offering.
The last news is a good news, but until Apple gives an official statement … we must wait and hope.
