What is 3G? It is a specification for the third generation (analog and digital PCS were the first two) of mobile communications technology. 3G technology will be incorporated into most top-end phones. It is a broadband, packet-based transmission of text, digitized voice, video and multimedia, offering a consistent set of services to mobile computer and phone users no matter where they are located in the world. It will soon become a part of the modern business life: Internet and Intranet access, video, conferencing and interactive application sharing.
December 2005 was the moment when the Chinese officials indicated that the 3G services will be available starting this year. There are over 400 millions mobile phones in China, which situates them as number one market in the world. In five years, according to Analysis International, over 100 millions 3G mobile phones will be in China. This means that T-Bay will have to move quickly if they want to remain in the top.
As Beijing it’s preparing for the 2008 Olympics, they are investing a lot of money in development and infrastructure. This includes also the 3G network. And T-Bay is holding an eye on the market and also made a timetable for it’s 3G plans in China.
- Sign cooperation contracts with platform providers by June 2006.
- Complete 3G phone design solutions based on platform and model making by the end of year 2006.
- Sell products on the market before June 2007.
Mr. Xiaofeng Li, CEO of T-Bay Holdings, commented, “The timetable is mainly based on current development of 3G technology and the Chinese Telecommunication industry. The 3G networks are still setting up and testing in some major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangdong. The networks will be available in major cities in the next 6 to 12 months, and widely spread by the end of 2007. By providing design solutions by the end of this year and having products on the market during mid-2007, our timing will be right.”
“The timetable is based on our understanding on current 3G development worldwide,” said Eric Xue, Chief Technology officer of T-Bay. Mr. Xue recently led a team participating in the 3GSM World Congress 2006 in Barcelona, Spain from Feb. 13-16, 2006. “We collected significant useful information on development of 3G in the conference and communicated with many international fundamental technology suppliers and 3G phone manufacturers.”
Also, it was rumored that T-Bay will sign two important 3G companies for their platforms. This will give T-Bay more flexibility and a distinctive advantage over it’s competitors.
