Kaspersky Lab just spotted the first virus for OpenOffice. The virus is named Stardust and it’s not dangerous. Read out more.
OpenOffice and StarOffice are the main target for Stardust. It was discovered by a Kaspersky Lab resercher.
“Stardust is a macro virus written for StarOffice, the first one I’ve seen,” the researcher wrote. “Macro viruses usually infect MS Office applications.”
It seems that Stardust was written in Star Basic and it’s only a proof-of-concept virus, which means that it was created to demonstrate that an OpenOffice virus is possible. This means that is not infecting computers and.
On the other hand, Microsoft Office still has problems with viruses. A security hole which was scheduled to be patched in the next updated was exploited at least one time.
With viruses for mobile phones and computers, nothing is safe. And here we go again about a good antivirus updated to the present day and a good firewall.
Stay safe.
