The long awaited launch of Sun’s public version of Grid is now actually happening.
The company announced that a public version of Grid product is going to be launched later this week. During the past few years Sun has had some financial trouble. Once the new product will be available on the market the profits are expected to rise pretty much.
Sun’s officials have stated that the launching date was delayed to some vulnerabilities encountered while tests were run. In the beginning only US users are going to take advantage of this product for $1 per hour cost. They can choose between AMD Opteron or SunUltraSPARC processors.
The grid will be used at first only for high-performance computing tasks but producers expect it to become a mainstream with time.
Sun believes the grid to be the future of computing planning to further develop this idea, the same way Java or even the almighty Internet, was developed.
