Famous Hacker Gets Hacked
Published On 23rd August 2006 @ 12:31 In Security, Internet | 1 Comment
In case you don’t know who Kevin Mitnick is, here is a short introduction:
Kevin Mitnick was a former computer cyber thief (or hacker if you want) who became notorious when he broke into the computer systems of Fujitsu, Motorola, Nokia and Sun Microsystems and then was arrested and convicted of wire fraud. He spent five years in prison, 8 month of which in solitary confinement, allegedly because his girlfriend told authorities that he could cause a nuclear attack by whistling into a phone.
After he got out of jail, Mitnick founded a company named Mitnick Security Consulting, LLC which now offers security consulting services.
Recently, Mitnick had a taste of his own medicine when the homepage of his website was defaced by cyber-vandals this week. The attack consisted of a replaced homepage with an offensive message and a defaced picture of Mitnick. The origin of the attack is believed to be in Pakistan.
“It is kind of stupid, they do it for the attention. When I was a hacker, I never stooped to defacing sites because that was more like vandalism, that wasn’t any fun,” said Mitnick, according to [1] PCPro.
“The Web hosting provider that hosts my sites was hacked, fortunately, I don’t keep any confidential data on my Web site, so it wasn’t that serious. Of course it is embarrassing to be defaced–nobody likes it.” Mitnick further commented.
This is now the first attack on Mitnick’s websites. Shortly after he left prison, his notoriety, attracted many hackers as they tried to put their nicknames on Mitnick’s homepage.
