Automatic Overcloking with ATI RD600

Published On 2nd June 2006 @ 04:02 In Hardware | No Comments

NVIDIA released their nForce 590 SLI Intel Edition and ATI came up with RD 600. They promised that they will be better then NVIDIA and their 590 SLI. Let’s see why.

While NVIDIA has LinkBoost which overclocks the HyperTransport links between the MCP and SPP, ATI will have a similar feature that will overclock the PCI Express bus 25% which they claim improves dongle-less CrossFire performance.

Also, the memory controller is something new. This one works asynchronously from the front-side bus. This mean that the memory won’t be limiting the FSB/CPU overclock and the FSB/CPU won’t limit the memoy overclock.

It also supports the DDR2-1066. It was designed for FSB 1333 but can reach 1500 (375MHz). This will make overclockers very, very happy.

RD600 will support motherboards with three PCI-Express x16 slots for three graphics cards. While two cards can be used for CrossFire, the third one can be used to handle the physics.

The users can adjust from Windows the FSB, memory Clock, PCIe clock, memory timings and the voltages.

RD600 will be manufactures using the 90nm process, allowing it to consume less power and to be silent. According to ATI, RD600 will cost about $150.
