Samsung Says My Bad

Published On 8th May 2006 @ 14:47 In Business | No Comments

After the Internet community criticized Samsung for doing such a thing they recalled all Skin’s from the market.

April 25. The users of www.appleforum.com discovered the plagiarized designs and Samsung was caught that they used identical graphic images from Apple and Microsoft.

The new handset (Skin), which began selling Korea in late April, has an identical graphic icon with Apple’s iMac PC which is composed of a ruled notepad and a pen lying on it. Samsung also copied other icons from Microsoft, such as a pile of three yellow sticky notes, and blue and green, round-shaped men that represent MSN Messenger.

All Samsung had to say was: “There were a few mistakes while we were developing the new product,” Chung Kook-hyun, chief of Samsung’s corporate design center, told The Korea Times by phone. “We have already fixed the designs and I believe that the old models are not being sold in the market anymore.”

Chung said he did not identify how or by whom the copied icons were put into the new cell phone. Maybe the designers had too little time to finish the designs and considered that the icons from Apple and Microsoft fit well into the scheme? Who knows?

Users who already purchased the phone can update the graphic menu by downloading software via the company homepage.

How things will evolve for Samsung it’s unsure. Let’s not forget that Apple chose Samsung as a memory supplier.
