Question Is “Why?”

This new software turns Windows XP PC with TV tuner card into a digital video recorder. The viewer is this way enabled to connect to Yahoo services such as photos and music.
Yahoo Go for TV is the latest software component of Yahoo’s Go platform which was actually designed to bring the content from a PC to other devices.
As the PC world is under continuous change it is absolutely normal for giant companies like Microsoft, Google or Yahoo to try and provide their users with technology that would ensure an easy transition of the PC to the full entertainment device.
With the new software from Yahoo users can view photos on their TVs, play games or listen to music via Yahoo. Tv show recording and DVD playback is also supported by the new software.
Still, what Yahoo has just brought out in the open has already been on the market for some time now: SnapStream or Windows Media Center.
With Microsoft offering a pretty competitive package through Windows Media Center the effort and time that Yahoo spends with the DVR software does not seem to make too much sense, taking into consideration that Yahoo Music and Photos could be easily brought on the table through the MCE interface.
Does Yahoo have something else in mind?
