Burst.com Takes Apple To Court

Published On 18th April 2006 @ 14:23 In Software, Business | No Comments

The actual story began somewhere in 2004 when Apple was first approached by Burst regarding the same issue.

In January, Apple filed for a declaratory judgment that it isn’t infringing on Burst’s patents but still Burst chose to go to court, having filed for a lawsuit on Monday in federal court in San Francisco.

Not believing that the patents are valid, Apple refused to reach a licensing agreement. Burst, which is company whose software speeds up the video and audio files delivery over a network has had some similar issues in the past with Microsoft. The dispute ended with a $60 million settlement and a Microsoft license to the Burst technology.

Claiming that the iTunes software, the iPod and Quicktime streaming software infringe on patents held by Burst.com, Burst is sure to have a strong case which is very much alike the one involving Microsoft.

So far, Apple has chosen not to comment the filed against action. Where is this whole lawsuit going to anyway ?
