Pentium D Era Is Almost Over

Pentium D 830, 840, 930 and 940 will stop shipping. The new Dual Core processors are taking their places.

As DailyTech informs, December 15th, 2006 will be the last day distributors will be able to place orders on Pentium D 830, 840, 930 and 940 processors. The four Intel Pentium D processors will cease shipping on February 8th, 2008.

Intel explanation for discontinuing the four Pentium D processors was that “Market demand for the Desktop Intel Pentium D processors 930 and 940 has shifted to other Intel processors. The products identified in this notification will be discontinued and unavailable for additional orders after the “Last Product Discontinuance Order Date.”

The remaining versions of the Pentium D Series, the 925, 915, 820 and 805 processors have undergone a major price cutting campaign in an effort to stay competitive with AMD’s price cuts.

As previously released processors are being gradually withdrawn from production, Intel offers new processors which benefit from the latest technology in computing such as the Core 2 Duo Conroe processors.
