After AMD bought ATI, things started to change for the Canadian manufacturer. Although ATI has promised the acquisition from AMD would not affect the shipment of Intel platform based chipset, they might not be able to keep the promise.
Five existing chipsets (RD600, RD500, RS600, RC410 and RC415) will be still developed by ATI because Intel gave its OK for them.
On the other hand, RC610 will be probably the last chipset meant for Intel and will be released in Q1 2007. Other chipset that appeared on ATI’s roadmap like RD700, RS700 and RC710 are no longer present into the roadmap and have been cancelled recently. This means that ATI won’t develop anymore Intel chipsets beyond Q1 2007.
A document issued from ATi to manufacturers says that the company would continue to ship until the market no longer to need the products. To give confidence, ATI, sure, has already explained and promised. But we know what happened with ULI after it was acquired by NVIDIA. ULI suddenly stopped the production of south bridge for AMD, M1573 and M1575, affecting much of the original product plans. Manufactures learnt from that, and it’s reasonable for them to make less ATI-Intel product.
Regarding the AMD-ATI products, new ATI IGP product appeared on the roadmap. Codenamed SC780, it’s a unified version of RS690 and SB600, using 65nm manufacturing process. SC780 is designed for entry level and will be released in Q3 2007.
