We presented you with Google’s project named GDrive some time ago.
It seems that Microsoft has the same idea. It’s all about the competition between Google and Microsoft. If one does one thing, the other copies.
Named Live Drive, Microsoft will offer the same solution as Google: Microsoft is planning to use its server farms to offer anyone huge amounts of online storage of digital data. With Live Drive, all your information – movies, music, tax information, anything can be stored and accessed from everywhere in the world.
It seems that Microsoft is under pressure. They even had a big meeting regarding Google, Yahoo and their actions. Even Microsoft Office was a subject considering the other alternatives.
Fundamental questions faced the group: Was the company at risk? If so, what should it do? Should advertising – already a mainstay of Microsoft’s MSN service – become a source of revenue for every division of the company? And it seems that the one responsible for Microsoft makeover is Ray Ozzie, a new Microsoft employee.
Ray Ozzie worked at Lotus Development who in the end was bought by IBM. After leaving IBM in 2005 he ended up at Microsoft as Chief Technical Officers.
What will come up with Live Drive and Microsoft makeup will surely be an interesting thing. And as always we will keep you posted.
