The next media format war is not just about player, media or hardware. It’s also about a psychological war.
In this psychological war where both sides defend either their consoles and media format or they bash the opponent toys.
Not it’s time for Sony to accuse Microsoft of copying their ideas and not only that.
Kaz Hirai, one of Sony’s boss accused Microsoft of following Sony and doing whatever Sony is doing because they are afraid to come up with new ideas.
“Every time we go down a path, we look behind and [Microsoft is] right there - we just can’t shake these guys,” Hirai told Official PlayStation Magazine.
“I wish that they would come up with some strategies of their own, but they seem to be going down the path of everything we do.”
Next point of the talks was of course the Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD. Kaz accused Microsoft that they are not making a XBOX with a HD-DVD incorporated as they are doing with Blu-Ray. I recall you that Microsoft said that they will release soon an optional external device that will be able to playback HD-DVD content.
“You’re not going to be asking me, ‘So, talk to me about this Blu-ray add-on that you have. Does it work for games? Is it just for movies?’ That’s exactly the kind of pitfall you fall into if you launch something that’s too early, too premature…” Hirai claimed.
But if you remember this year’s E3 when Sony revealed their PS3 controller, many compared the motion-sensing technique with the one implemented in Wii controller. Sony said that this technique was in research for many years and this a only a natural thing of evolving but considering that Nintendo solution is better implemented and that Sony presented many controllers along the time since PS3 concept was presented it makes you wondering if Sony didn’t copied the motion-sensing technique from Nintendo.
The same thing can be said about Sony’s desire to create a virtual marketplace that almost copies the XBOX LIVE. So is Sony copying thing from others and just renames them and yells that others are copying Sony on everything they do or are they into a copy me and I’ll copy you and them we blame each other circle?
