It seems that Toshiba is working on another source of power for notebooks.
The fuel cells are now the primary focus for Toshiba. Started four years ago, Toshiba just presented a working prototype of fuel cell which powered a Portege notebook for 10 hours.
With a program to display the remaining fuel, with many test to make this solution safe, Toshiba seems to be on the right track.
“We’ve dropped it on its front, its back, its edges, and we’ve found it to be extremely strong,” said Tomoaki Arimura of Toshiba’s Methanol Fuel Cell Group.
More, they are working on a “flat-bed” fuel cell which sits under the notebook, making it easier to be used. They said that a miniaturization process will take place until this solution will be able to be implemented into a laptop.
