If until now Metallica was one of the few that said NO to iTunes now they join the money making program.
Metallica was also one that stood against Napster. Napster’s case was a little different. There the big problem was that the music could be downloaded by anybody and the author didn’t received a dime as royalties. Now the things had changed and Napster pays the cut to the artists.
iTunes is a milking cow and the money can be made without moving a finger. You just agree that your music can be downloaded and the money keep on coming.
More, Jobs knows how to make you sign a deal and to present the deal so good that it appears that you are the one that will profit the most.
With Metallica joining the iTunes club and with it bands like Beatles and The Stones the old and traditional industry retail model will be forgotten. This way, the transition to the new digital music age will bring a new model, the digital download model. Embrace the future. If you like it.
Now, bands like the ones mentioned receive royalties that would not receive otherwise, thing that keeps them moving.
