LG Philips to Show Flexible Display

LG Philips has developed a 14.1-inch flexible active-matrix (AM) display that produces images on a bendable screen. It will be displayed at the Society for Information Display 2006 in San Francisco, California, June 4-9.

The resolution is 1280×800, the contrast ratio is 10:1, and the image can be viewed from any angle. The thickness of the flexible display is 300 micrometer. The flexible display is made of flexible metal foil, in contrast with LCD displays made of glass. It uses natural light rather than a backlight found in traditional LCD screens. This makes it thin and power efficient.

Flexible display is designed to be used as electronic paper (E-paper).
