Focusing on computer security, HP decided to open a new research laboratory in China later this year complementing existing six others.
“This plant along with the one in Bangalore will help us serve our next billion customers,” HP Labs Associate Director Howard Taub revealed on a meeting at HP’s Palo Alto facility.
Hewlett-Packard has other Lab sites located in Palo Alto, California; Cambridge, Massachusetts; Bristol, England; Haifa, Israel; Tokyo, Japan; and Bangalore, India each with its own specialty.The number of employess rises at almost 600.
The Palo Alto Lab is doing research on microprocessors at nanometer scale that might replace current transistor technology in the future. In Israel, HP is doing research on imaging and printing technologies while Bangalore labs are currently experimenting with a portable photo printer and a solar cell for power to travel to towns that have no electricity according to HP Labs Associate Director Howard Taub.
At the other facilities HP is working on networking products, software and mobile, general office, and wide-format printing categories.
Hewlett-Packard follows other big companies such as IBM, Intel, or Cisco Systems and makes its presence noticeable in China announcing plans to establish 1,000 retail outlets in 100 major cities in China to compete with Lenovo and Dell.
