The most popular search engine on the Internet, is taking actions against websites that distribute badware.
StopBadware.org is an initiative aimed at fighting badware on the Internet. They try to inform and provide guidance to consumers to make better choices about what they download on to their computers. Such an initiative couldn’t be efficient without powerful sponsors supporting it.
Next to Lenovo and Sun, Google is an active participant in the Stop Badware coalition. Google has announced it’s participation since January, but recently, an announcement on the StopBadware.org website informs that Google will be actively involved by presenting people a warning before they visit websites that have been identified as risky by the coalition.
The warnings currently link to a general page on StopBadware.org, as the sites research continues, the general page will be replaced with an individual website reports.
Although Google has not yet provided an officially comment on this matter, the Stop Badware Coalition reports that the protective measures will be implemented soon in the search engine.
The coalition is confident about Google’s initiative as it declares on its website: “Hopefully this next step will bring us that much closer to fulfilling our mission of providing people with reliable, objective information about downloadable applications in order to help them make better choices.”
