Fight Against Phishing

New online service to fight against phishing available for Internet users.

The free service provided by CipherTrust is meant to fight against phishers and their attacks. PhishRegistry.org plans to help businesses know when they are at risk of being phished. It monitors the content of a website and alerts the owner if there are attempts to duplicate it have been detected. There is the possibility of sending weekly reports to your email address with information about the suspect websites.

If one should choose to register to the site it benefits of reports regarding suspicious phishing activity, but also helps out the alert people monitor suspect activity even better. Basically, the Web address is submitted to PhishRegistry.org. Using “Phisherprinting‿ technology, as the company calls it, a “fingerprint‿ of the genuine pages is created. The system starts then scanning the Web and compares sites according to the markers. When illegitimate sites are detected, it releases an alert releasing weekly reports with information about suspicious Web sites.

The new fighting against phishing technology comes one week after another effort in the battle has emerged to the surface. Sunbelt Software and CastleCops launched the Phishing Incident Reporting and Termination squad which represents another effort in the ever lasting battle against pishers.

Even if more and more solutions and tools are designed to help out in this continuous effort of securing the Web, statistics show that phishers attacks keep rising. This is definitely not reassuring.
