It seems that China secret to censorship was discovered and neutralized.
A group of computer researchers from the University of Cambridge found a way to get by China’s censorship filter.
If you remember, China is using its power to censorship words, facts and places from the Chinese people. They cannot search for things considered “forbidden” by the Chinese government.
They blocked Google.com for a day, they forced the main search engine to play by their rules, even forced Yahoo to help them catch some dissidents.
These researchers found out that China is using a network of Cisco routers to censor keywords. If someone let’s say uses a certain keywords into its search, the routers send empty packets to the website where the content was found during the search. This way, you actually send nothing, so you get nothing.
This way, the researches found a way to ignore the empty packets sent by the Cisco routers and to interpret them correctly.
Richard Clayton, spokesperson for the laboratory at the university told reporters that the researchers had reported the findings to the Chinese Computer Emergency Response Team.
