The French say yes to the usage of cell phones when flying Air France.
The airline is planning to launch a six-month pilot project testing the use of cell phones on aircraft. According to OnAir, Air France is going to receive an airbus with a GSM gear on board early next year.
The A318 single-aisle plane with GSM gear included would enable passengers traveling with Air France within Europe and on external flights to and from the North African continent, to use their cell phones during flights.
Having to turn off cell phones when flying an airline has turned into an inconvenient for the passengers. With the new projects airline companies are trying to respond to the increasing demand of their customers on board need of communication.
OnAir, an airbus-SITA partnership, plans to provide voice and data communications services for passengers traveling on Airbus and Boeing aircrafts. Boeing has actually already started offering Connection by Boeing which is an in-flight service on some international flights but the service is still forbidden in the US, for example.
