CeBIT Opens the Gates to the Public

I think that most of you have heard at least one time in the last 20 years about CeBIT. But what is CeBIT? It is a fair who presents the latest technologies, products, and how they apply to both business and home user.

This years CeBIT motto will be “Digital Solution for Work&Life�. So, you can watch the new digital world, feel it, the present and future technologies.

There will be 6262 exhibitors form 71 countries and they will occupy 310412 square miles.They will be able to see system, software, network computing, telecommunication, home computing, hardware and Internet applications. All in just 7 days. Here you can find a map with the halls, and their categories. And here you will find some products that will be exposed.

Imagine that in 2005, over 120000 visitors were top management, 128000 visitors from outside Germany came to CeBIT to see what is has to offer and to end deals. Further more, last year, CeBIT attracted 43000 dealers and distributors. And 88% of the visitors were business professionals. Now that’s something.

What about the number of companies that are presenting their products? There are 3305 companies present at the trade show, with an increase of 25 more companies from 2005, and the top 5 countries from where they came is: Taiwan (with 711 exhibitors), China (412), South Korea (229), USA (198) and on 5th comes Eastern Europe (200). They all want to show their products and technologies, to create partnerships, relations and to sell.

Each of the major display categories at CeBIT comes with its own program of forums, special events and ‘hot topics’, which serve to promote knowledge transfer and to build and strengthen communities. In the display category ‘Business Processes’, for example, we find presentations on the themes of RFID and Security. In the segment ‘Digital Equipment & Systems’ the highlighted themes include HDTV and Personal and Mobile Storage. In the Communication section, you will be able to witness the presentation of VoIP@CeBIT and WLAN World. Top themes in this section include ‘Telematics, Navigation and Logistics’ and mobile phone TV. More solutions with the emphasis on practical application are on offer at the presentation ‘Bank-Finanz-Systeme’ in the ‘Banking & Finance’ segment, at the special display ‘Geo-Information Systems’ and the ‘eHealth’ section of the ‘Public Sector Parc’, as well as in the ‘future talk’ discussion forum that forms part of ‘future parc’.

A surprise for this year’s CeBIT will be the speeches of some very important and key figures of the IT business. At the opening ceremony speech will be present Vodafone’s boss Arun Sarin. Also, you’ll have the pleasure of seeing Anand Chandrasekher, Vice President of Intel, and Guerrino De Luca, CEO of Logitech, Gianfranco Lanci, President of Acer, Colin MacLean Boyd, CIO of Sony Ericsson, and Viviane Reding, EU Commissioner for Information, Society and Media.

The opening ceremony will be held by Chancellor Angela Merkel , on the evening of 8th March, and will have an audience of over 2000 guests, from Germany and abroad. It will be followed by the speech of Vodafone’s boss Arun Sarin. There will be present also Willi Berchtold, the President of BITKOM.
