Believe it or not, but an Apple iBook caught fire. No human or material damages, except the laptop, were reported.
Dave Brown, an 11-year old boy left his iBook in the living room. His parents heard a popping noise and when they entered the living room they found smoke and the carpet beneath the laptop started to melt. Minutes after, when the parents took the laptop outside the house, the iBook was in flames.
This is a true story, and you can find it here. Also, you might want to look at the movie from right upper corner.
It seems that Apple is having big problems with quality control. They started a recall for MacBook batteries for batteries with odd behavior, a MagSafe AC connector catch on fire, but Apple quickly removed the photos from the sites that were investigating the problem.
The latest problems Apple had were the heat on MacBook Pro and the black paint that flakes on black MacBooks. If for the first problem the MacBook Pro users wanted to start a call center flood to force Apple to look into MacBook Pro problems, for the second problem were you where paying additional $200 for black paint no solution was found yet.
Also, the batteries form iPods are very weak and after one year they are starting to deplete very quickly making the unusable, making the iPods battery a very profitable business.
But not only Apple has battery problems. Motorola’s phones started to explode in Brazil, Nokia has also problems with batteries. Both Motorola and Nokia said that the problems are caused by counterfeit batteries.
Is low quality control a solution to cut down costs of products?
