Brasil Telecom Selects Alcatel-Lucent for IP Network Transformation

Brasil Telecom has selected Alcatel-Lucent IP/MPLS solution as the foundation for the first converged, nation-wide network in Brasil.

The Alcatel-Lucent IP/MPLS solution will allow Brasil Telecom to offer both fixed and mobile residential broadband, as well as business VPN services from a single platform, resulting in improved operational simplicity, flexibility and lower costs.

The Alcatel-Lucent IP/MPLS solution will ensure Brasil Telecom meets Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for business critical services. The new network will carry IP and Ethernet-based VPNs for enterprise customers, and will be used to aggregate Internet, video on demand and mobile backhaul traffic. The Alcatel-Lucent solution will also support triple play services allowing Brasil Telecom to offer the next wave of advanced services with minimal further investment and in line with customer demand.

“Brasil Telecom has a very large subscriber base therefore we need to deploy field-proven, scalable and highly reliable technology for our IP transformation” said Dante Nardelli, technical planning and technology director of Brasil Telecom. “Placing our complete services portfolio over a single, flexible Alcatel-Lucent infrastructure allows us to reduce network complexity and increase revenues by offering value added services to our customers.Alcatel-Lucent also gives us the foundation for triple play services in the future, which is important as we continue to evolve our network.”

Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its IP/MPLS portfolio in main cities across 14 states in Brazil. The Alcatel-Lucent solution consists of the 7750 Service Router, 7450 Ethernet Service Switch and 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM). Alcatel-Lucent also will provide a comprehensive suite of network integration services, including network optimization, system support and general project management, as well as assisted operation services, in nine States where Brasil Telecom operates, including the Federal District – the Brazilian capital.
