The second, named “MacBook Ultimate” has the same features as the $1499 version which has 80GB HDD, a SuperDrive and 512 MB RAM.

As for the problems, Apple admitted that the white MacBook have discoloration problems.

It seems that Apple knew about the brown spots that started to appear on the white versions of MacBook but acted only when the users started to see that it’s not just a single incident.

They believed that their units started to discolor along the palm rest area, touchpad area and other random areas. At first, many believe the problem was due to sweat and oils from hands, but the problem became more widespread. Users found that discoloration even occurred in areas where there was no human contact.

So they called AppleCare who offered them an exchange program.

This is only a part of the problems that Apple had with MacBook. The problem with black paint turning into flakes seems that happen to very few notebooks, but it still exists. Another huge problem was with the plastic that was covering the rear vent of MacBook. This problem was only fixed when frustrated Apple users organized a boycott.
