I think the title says it all.
AMD will cuts the price heavily on July 23rd, but this will be the only price drop until October 23th. Probably for the rest of the year too, but we can’t be sure because the price roadmap stops there.
As Intel released Conroe on July 13rd, making a hard time on AMD’s dual-core CPU because from the benchmarks Intel released it seems that Conroe is better than X2 at games and not only, AMD has now only one option. To cut the prices.
Considering that Intel will also cut the prices on the low-end CPUs, AMD is forced to do the same. But if Intel will lower even more the prices on its CPU, AMD will not follow the same lead.
To name only a few processors, an Athlon 64-3800+ will drop from $246 to $109. An Athlon64 X2-3800 will drop from $277 to $149. The biggest drop will be registered by Athlon64 X2-5000+ which will drop its price from $649 to $282. This means a drop of 230%.
We will see if AMD will still maintain the number one sales number or will Intel and its Conroe will dethrone AMD from the current position.
