Probably you know that making games cost a lot of money. And sometimes you don’t have them or you need more to make the game really good.
But if you don’t have them, what choices do you have?
Well, id Software found a way to increase it’s revenue from the games. The ads from the games would gave them a nice bonus to the budget of the future games.
“If advertising does not interfere with game play, no problems with it,” Tim Willits, co-owner and lead designer of Doom 3 said yesterday during a panel discussion. Willits later went on to to claim the company considered using advertising in the highly anticipated Enemy Territory Quake Wars video game.
This announcement comes after Microsoft bought Massive Inc and their ads in the games solution. Could this be a result of that thing?
Anyway, we will probably see more and more game developers and publishers joining Microsoft into putting ads into their games and therefore increasing the revenues from those games.
We will have to wait and see what gamers have to say about this. I’m sure that if they manage to implement ads that fit the game’s atmosphere, all will be fine. Otherwise, I don’t think gamers will like the idea. But we will see.
