As two underage victims were “picked up? from the Web site MySpace, the owners have recently announced implementing stricter security measures.
With a wide range of 60 million users, MySpace.com, owned by News Corp, has announced its intentions of adding more security to trial its users. Two adult men have been recently arrested for having molested two minors which they encountered on the MySpace Web site.
As the selection process for the users is definitely not flawless, News Corp is now trying to improve its security level in order to prevent abuse.
Around 200,000 profiles have already been deleted due to the suspicions that users may have lied in regard to their age. MySpace uses a software that automatically flags all profiles which include words that may have been used by children under 14. Of course the system is not perfect as no Web site technology guarantees the correct age of the user.
Even if the company has not been officially been pressed charges against, it is clear how the MySpace’s popularity and credibility has now been affected
